Pedagogy+ Initiative
To ensure that teaching staff have the necessary support for their development in the field of teaching, Pedagogy+, as illustrated in Figure 1, brings together a set of existing or currently designed initiatives within the School. Implemented by the Academic Development Unit (NDA), in direct collaboration with the Pedagogical Council (CP) and with logistical support for training activities under the Ensina+ component provided by the Training and Development Unit (NFD), Pedagogy+ integrates three strands that enhance and support the development of teaching activity:
- Contigo+, under the responsibility of the Pedagogical Council in articulation with the NDA, aims to document and share good practices already in place at the School, giving particular emphasis to peer-to-peer moments of sharing teaching strategies and classroom management practices.
- Sharing of Good Practices: Organisation of regular sessions in which teaching staff can present and discuss the outcomes of their empirical knowledge in the application of teaching methodologies.
- Peer Hub (Academic Good Practices Hub): Development of a platform where shared practices can be documented through short explanatory videos, supporting documents and contact details of those who implemented them, providing peers with a solid support base for implementation, seeking guidance or clarifying doubts.
- Peer Classroom Observation (under development)
- Training+, resulting from the direct collaboration between the NDA, CP and NFD, analyses identified needs and, accordingly, provides a set of pedagogical training opportunities for teaching staff, grounded in best theoretical and empirical practices:
- Annual Training Plan: Development of a training plan that includes courses, workshops and lectures on a range of pedagogical topics.
- Specific Training: Provision of targeted training in areas such as the use of educational technologies, active learning methodologies and learning assessment.
- Coaching+ is a service offered by the NDA, aimed at fostering the development of teaching competencies through classroom observations, feedback sessions, advisory meetings on the implementation of pedagogical practices, and in-class support:
- Classroom Observation: Conducting classroom observations with the aim of providing constructive feedback to teaching staff.
- Personalised Feedback: Offering individual feedback sessions to discuss strengths and areas for improvement.
- Implementation Support: Supporting the implementation of innovative pedagogical activities and the use of new technologies in the classroom.
- Content Development: Production of documents to support the feedback provided and to complement the training component.
