NDA conducts classroom observations with the aim of promoting and enhancing faculty pedagogical skills.

For Assistant Professors and Assistant Researchers in their probationary period, within the framework of the Shaping The Future Program, one class will be observed in each academic year—whether it is a practical, theoretical, tutorial, or laboratory session. The faculty member chooses which class will be observed. Following the observation, the faculty member meets individually with the team member(s) who conducted the observation to receive feedback on positive aspects and potential improvements to implement in class. Supporting materials specifically tailored to the areas for improvement may also be provided (e.g., the ‘Guiding Ideas for Higher Education Learning’). Faculty typically report that the observation and feedback received contribute to improving their teaching practice.

Faculty members not covered by the Shaping The Future program may also request to have their class observed by NDA. To do so, simply send an email to nda@tecnico.ulisboa.pt and we will be glad to schedule the observation.
